Mission, Values and Goals
The Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women’s Health Nurses (CAPWHN) (in French - Association canadienne des infirmières et infirmiers en périnatalité et en santé des femmes) is a new organization representing women's health, obstetric and newborn nurses from across Canada. CAPWHN aims to promote excellence in nursing practice, leadership, education, and research in the areas of perinatal and women’s health care.
CAPWHN’S goal is to improve the health and health care of women, newborns, and families through the following objectives:

Facilitate networking, sharing and learning among nurses in the perinatal and women’s health specialties.

Promote evidence-based practice through nurses’ participation in the development of standards, policies, guidelines, policy statements and programs related to perinatal and women’s health care.

Support lifelong learning for perinatal and women’s health nurses by promoting and providing continuing nursing and interprofessional learning opportunities.

Provide mentorship opportunities in nursing practice, leadership, education and research to nurses working with women, newborns and families.

Advocate for informed choice and family-centered care for Canadian women, newborns and families

Interact and collaborate with consumers/consumer groups to promote perinatal and women’s health.

Collaborate with other professional groups, as well as health care and health related organizations.
CAPWHN works closely with other Canadian professional organizations such as the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, The Breastfeeding Committee of Canada, Maternity Care Committee of Canadian Family Practice and Canadian Perinatal Surveillance Systems.
