Perinatal Nursing Certification

Certified Nurses Day

On March 19th we celebrated Certified Nurses Day - an International day of recognition celebrating certified nurses’ contribution to the profession. Congratulations to all Perinatal Nursing certified nurses and thank you for your commitment to nursing excellence and continuing competence! If you are considering Perinatal Nursing Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association, make sure your CAPWHN membership is up to date to save 20% on the initial exam or recertification fee.

Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification is a nationally recognized nursing specialty credential for nurses. CNA offers 22 nursing practice specialties for registered nurses, including perinatal nursing and, in 2019, CNA introduces its first certification for licensed/registered practical nurses.

New in 2019: CAPWHN members receive a 20% discount on their initial or renewal certification exam or renewal by continuous learning! Make sure your CAPWHN membership is up to date (or join CAPWHN) prior to registering for the exam.

To become certified, you must pass a rigorous computer-based exam. There are two exam windows annually (see important dates). Your exam preparation will be unique, depending on what you already know in your specialty. CNA offers exam preparation, and several CAPWHN members are mentors for Perinatal Nursing Certification. To join a study group, contact CAPWHN.

If you become certified, your credential will be valid for a five-year term. At the end of five years, you can renew by submitting a record of continuous learning hours or rewriting the exam.
